In 1982, months after acquiring Lake Erie Iron & Metal Co. in Painseville, Ohio, Marty Hathy established Great Lakes Oxygen working out of the same location. Lake Erie Iron & Metal Co. is a full line steel service center serving the needs of industrial, construction, automotive, commercial and consumer markets since the early 1960's.

With the start of Great Lakes Oxygen consumers could now not only buy their steel but also all their welding supplies and gases from the same location. In 1989, a family owned and run business for over 30 years, Welders Supply Co., Cleveland, Ohio was purchased. Additionally, our bulk propane business unit, Great Lakes Propane, was also formed.

In addition to providing a large inventory of steel products in full or cut lengths of material, we offer a complete host of fabrication capabilities. Our fabrication department includes certified welders, dual 7-ton overhead cranes, ½" X 12' hydraulic shear, 8' X 24' burn table, as well as band saws, iron workers, drill presses and punches.

With two locations Great Lakes Oxygen in Painseville, Ohio and Welders Supply Co., situated in the heart of industrial Cleveland, can respond to the needs of our customers effectively and economically while offering a multitude of products and services. Not only do both of our locations fill high-pressure cylinders, cylinder banks and tube trailers, but also liquid cylinders and propane. Always concerned about responding to our cost conscious customers Great Lakes Oxygen, in 2002, installed a specialty gas lab with computerized filling programs and analyzation equipment to fill HP pure gases to reference standards, gas mixtures and laser mixes.

Our large mobile service fleet is modern and dependable.
